What is application state?

Application state is a global storage mechanism that is accessible from all pages in the Web application which is an instance of the HttpApplicationState class. Application state is useful for storing information that needs to be maintained between server round trips and between requests for pages.

Writing information to application state:
Application.Lock();
Application["SbPages"] = ((int)Application["SbPages"])+1;
Application.UnLock();

Reading information from application state:

if (Application["SbPages"] != null)
{
   int count = (int)Application["SbPages"];
}
